On September 12, 2008, Senior Companion, Helen Chappell, was awarded the Priority Health Senior Impact Award. Helen received recognition and a plaque for her outstanding community involvement. Also, Montcalm/Mecosta/Ionia SCP received a $1,000 donation from Priority Health.
In addition to serving 20 hours as a Senior Companion, Helen is also Secretary for the Mid-MI Community Action Governing Board, an alternate representative for the Mecosta County Human Service Collaborative Body, a volunteer for Special Olympics, and our Senior Companion Leader. She assists with monthly commodity distributions and organizes a yearly euchre tournament for the
We have had the opportunity to watch Helen blossom over the last seven years. From having very little confidence when she joined the program, she is now an active community leader. We are blessed, as well as, the people she serves to have Helen as a volunteer!
